I sometimes hear it said that the Unitarian church is essentially an upper-class church. if so, it is unfortunate. The same people say that [another denomination] is essentially a lower-class church. If so, it is unfortunate. But we do not escape, for they say of us that we are essentially a middle-class church. If it be true, that also is unfortunate. The world has little use for a merely class church.

I would like to believe when I die that I have given myself away like a tree that sows seed every spring and never counts the loss, because it is not loss, it is adding to future life. It is the tree’s way of being. Strongly rooted perhaps, but spilling out its treasure on the wind.
